Northshore Families Helping Families has an opening for a full time Resource Specialist!

This invaluable position provides support and information to parents of children with disabilities and adults with disabilities, as well as connects them to programs, services and community resources.


Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of service systems that provide assistance and/or services to parents of children with disabilities or individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong teambuilding and organizational skills
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Active listening skills for compassionate and supportive interactions with families and co-workers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (public speaking/presentations) skills
  • Professional and respectful disposition as a representative for NFHF
  • Embrace diversity of all populations with tolerance and empathy
  • Understand and agree with the mission and vision statement of NFHF
  • Understand and practice People First Language, a communication protocol used when discussing a person with a disability with respect
  • Experienced in using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday 9am-4pm in our Covington office, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Must be a family member to a person with a developmental disability

Job Duties and Description:

  • Agrees to and follows all policies and procedures of NFHF
  • Understand how to navigate the system of services in Region 9
  • Greet and help families/individuals visiting/calling NFHF, direct them to correct staff member or program, give them information as needed, take messages for staff as needed
  • Maintain files of information pertinent to individuals with disabilities and a regional resource binder
  • Manage and maintain the lending library
  • Updates and maintains resource brochures and information/fact sheets
  • Responsible for receiving, organizing, and filing FPHSA and Early Steps referrals
  • Develops, updates, and sends out welcome information
  • Receive and sort mail
  • Enters all contact information in the data base by the 3rd of each month
  • Maintain and build community partnership informing them of NFHF services and events
  • Manage center voicemail system, monitor NFHF info email, answer questions or route to appropriate person
  • Schedule workshops and events by arranging location, presenters, and other details, as well as assisting with copying, collating, and gathering other materials for workshops/events
  • Register participants for upcoming events as needed and reminds participants about upcoming workshop through calls/emails
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers and community agencies
  • Attends monthly NFHF staff meetings
  • Completely complies and understands the importance of the organization’s confidentiality policy
  • Maintains an open and respectful communication & collaboration with all NFHF staff, administration, and Board of Directors
  • Join and support LACAN and recruit new members
  • Contributes positively to the overall appearance of the office and property
  • Participate in fundraising events and workshops sponsored by NFHF as requested
  • Complies with all other requests determined by Executive Director

-Starting hourly rate $12-$14/hour based on experience

-35 hours per week
-Health benefits are not available
